Exploring a New Medium

Blast from the past.

With a Polaroid camera as a new addition to my artistic arsenal, I have been deconstructing the photos. That sounds formal… actually, it’s been relaxing and fun!

The process involves submerging the photo in a water bath to isolate the celluloid from the backing paper. I don’t necessarily wish to recreate the original photo, which is easily possible.
Instead, I manipulate the delicate celluloid in water by encouraging it to hold its floating abstract shape of fluid ripples and folds whilst reattaching it to art paper.

The work re-emerges as a hybrid mono print/photo.

The project is really at a preliminary stage, exploring the physical parameters of the medium, its limitations, and potential.
