Commission Anne to create a painting or drawing. 01/05/2011 Not as expensive as you might think, find out how the process works.

Commissioning a work of art sounds very grandiose but it really is a very simple procedure when dealt with correctly.

Artists work this process in different ways.

 Here are some considerations.

What medium's right for you?

Firstly, what look are you trying to achieve?

Do you have a budget in mind?

Where is this picture going to hang?

How much space do you have?

I like to take time and discover the aesthetic likes and dislikes of my clients.

We discuss possible subject matter and of course the budget.

The cost of the piece is usually spread out over three payments ; at the onset, after the mock up and upon completion.

Interesting alternatives are drawings in mixed media, charcoal or pen and ink which don't cost as much as an oil painting.

For larger pieces the next stage is a small visual mock up to establish the feel and direction of the work. This sets not only customer and the artists mind at rest but confirms the general appearance of the final piece. Any concerns or relative feedback on the overall vision can be discussed at this point.

The painting can usually take about 12 weeks to complete however this is variable.

Commissions start at £400 for framed small pieces in oil.
